Successful Mindset Through Meditation

Meditation was first documented over 5,000 years ago in India. It’s believed to be first practiced in the Buddhist religion. Meditation gets such a bad wrap. The sad thing is it’s such a powerful tool and other then time, it’s free! When you think of meditation you either think of the goofy stoner yoga instructor in movies or a bald monk in weird clothes sitting quietly in a temple. You don’t have to be either of those to be able to meditate. Many successful celebrities and entrepreneurs like Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tim Ferriss, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Ellen DeGeneres and many more all meditate.

What is meditation?

Meditation can be very easy to misunderstand. Meditation is the practice to train the mind to get in a deep state of awareness. There are many different forms of meditation and many ways to practice meditation but, the main goal is to get to that state of awareness.

How to Meditate

There are many different ways to meditate but, lets stick to the basic breathing meditation for this article. First, find a good quiet place that you won’t be disturbed for 15-20 minutes. Second, sit up straight either on the floor or in a chair. You do not have to be in the lotus position. Third, close your eyes and inhale deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Make sure you keep your breathing natural don’t try to force any breathing that feels uncomfortable. Lastly, focus on your breathing and be aware. If you start to focus on something else get back to focusing on your breathing. If you need music or a meditation timer do it. Work your way up to doing this twice a day, once in the morning and once before you go to bed. After you get your breathing down start looking into more advanced practices of meditation.

If you want to be successful a great place to start is getting your mind in the right mindset. Not preparing yourself for success, is preparing yourself for failure. Start meditating daily. You may not see it’s benefits immediately but, keep going. Use your meditation time to prep your mind for the day, reduce stress, get rid of distractions, get refocused and dissect your day. Learn to be aware of where you’re at today and what you need to do to get to your next step of success. If you have any tips please share.
